Another Visitor

A beauty, perhaps some type of swallowtail butterfly, but I'm only guessing. There was also a humming bird moth, but it was moving too fast for me to get a clear photo.

  2. Yes, you have a black swallowtail there. I've been helping them along on my fennel much of the summer. It's amazing to watch the process of metamorphosis.

  3. There are two plants I want to add near the butterfly bush next spring. fenel, and milkweed. Years ago I had the chance to watch the development from catterpiller (a very ugly looking one)through a beautiful gold cocoon, to a magnificent cecropia moth. (That was long before I was into nature photography). I would love to be able to photograph that now. ATB!

  4. Very sweet face on Cloe...very hard on ducks and chickens...I'll have to have a coon-tight pen when I start raising fowl again...been there, done that!

    LOVE the swallowtail!!!

  5. To be sure, raccoons and birds of any kind don't mix! And making a coon-proof enclosure calls for some pretty creative,(and not to mention expensive) - work. That includes pens to keep raccoons in - as in an animal rescue situation. Those critters can seem as good as Harry Houdini. ATB!
