This looks serious, but it did not last.

I am almost to the point that I would be grateful for anything with moisture...we are bone dry.

When I lived VT,NH & MA I couldn't wait for the first snow...but now I will enjoy it in Northern blogs..I love that lil' Racoon. I have a Momma and lil' one that enjoy our back yard..looking for any kernels of corn the bunnies or squirrels have missed. But they can be very destructive..especially birdfeeders...I had to run an electric fence wire over the cable my big feeder is suspended on to keep them off. But I love having them wander through.

It's been a strange year here Gail. Last winter we has the lowest amount of snow I have seen in perhaps 30 years. The Spring was dry too. Water levels on the St. Laurence were the lowest since the mid 40s. But then by June, the rain returned. Not a great deal all at once, but frequent drizzle. The soil outside the Retreat has never had a chance to dry out! In fact now it's quite muddy. Lawn sprinkler futures are out the window! (Grin). ATB!

Hi Carol; Indeed a raccoon in the wrong place can do a lot of damage. They seem to want to renovate everything. But it's the squirrels that are doing a number on my bird feeders. (Hey, I see there is a black squirrel at the platform right now - they are rare in this area). I would like to discourage the squirrels - and let the birds have a better chance, but I would not want to drive them away completely. (Actually it's against the law to feed any critter here - except the birds). It makes for a strange situation.
