Nature in a suburban backyard
Looking well?!?! Is she looking a little fat Rusty or is that my imagination? Go ahead, tell me that's her "winter coat"...:)JP
Sometimes I think Raccoons have an easy life. Our local bandits at the chickens!
Is that the portly Napoleon in the first photo? Kimmie looks well. Glad to see her back.
Yes, she is one very big - and probably pregnant raccoon. My guess is she probably weighs about 50 pounds! And yes, thats still her winter fur. That coat won't start 'cracking' until perhaps april. In spite of her size she is a very gentle animal, almost passive in nature. I would not want to be around if she was in a bad mood. (Grin).
Hi Bunnits. Yes, thats Napoleon. (Or Nappy for short). That photo was taken a while ago. It's Time to Live: No problem for chickens around here. These are pretty well city raccoons - they probably don't even know what a chicken looks like. It's funny though. Some raccoons will even share living space with chickens. Oh, yes - Kimmie (AKA Big Momma) loves eggs. ATB!
that's one huge mama!and she's showing her teeth! smiling for the camera!:laura
Kimmie sure is pretty, all fat and fluffy and productive as she is!And isn't it sweet that she smiled for her photo op?
Beautifully royal lady!
Rusty, OK I admit it, my first response was going to be that Kimmie indeed wintered over well with some stored body fat. But then I read that she may be carrying little ones and would thin out, so I'll take back that thought. Hope you get some shots of her family later on since she is "friendly" enough to pose - maybe a family photo-op?
Hi Rusty,I'm here from Familiar Spirit. Your pictures are wonderful, and I'll be back to see more. Is Kimmie pregnant or just well-fed?
I came to congratulate you on guessing the building. I enjoy watching raccoons but do not want to cross one's path.
Hi Deb... Probably both. I'm not certain if she is expecting but I should know soon. She is certainly the biggest raccoon around here - by far. Yet she is as gentle as can be. That said there is no doubt she could do a lot of damage to anything that threatened her youngsters. My guess is she probably weighs around 50 pounds!
well sweetheart is back - Winter was hard in your area from what I would read. I bet she is so excited to get out and play and eat..
