A slight change of pace

Yes, being a little fed up with winter I decided to but a new 'pet'. Many years ago I cultivated many African violets under lights. I even won a few ribbons - though never best in show. Still, though very short on space in the Retreat, I thought it was time to bring in some new color (or if you prefer, colour) grin. Except for the dim glow from the computer screen, and the surveillance camera screen, it's dark in here. So I have this little plant under a single CFL. Lets see how well this grows over the next few months. ATB!

I'm not very good at growing things, but I love to see them. Your photographs in the side bar are wonderful -- not to mention the raccoons at the top.

Rusty, Violets are such "happy" flowers, don't you think? They so remind me of my Johnny Jump Ups that spring up everywhere throughout the growing season! Thanks for the warmer upper!...:)JP

I love these flowers too, one of the few that blesses us with flowers in the winter

I agree with everyone, sweet faces on these blooms. Love purple flowers too. Good luck with your experiment. Wishing you a good weekend too :-)

Beautiful, I could never grow these.

My mother was the best at growing violets. When she became ill, her friend called and reminded us the violets must be watered at noon...no other time would do.

Love the violet. I use to have a few in my kitchen...years and years and years ago. I may need to get more after seeing this beauty.

You know that is one plant that I fail to be able to grow. They always die for some reason. It has been a while since I tried to grow one though so maybe I should try again now that I am older. Maybe they just grow for older people like me.

OK, great ammunition for the dead of winter blog stuff. How everyone can grow beautiful African violets.

Coming soon...

1) The right amount of light.

2) Easy way to water them properly.

And so on..... ATB!

I have never been good with house plants, Rusty, but this on is so very colorful and hope it does well under the CFL.
